Effect of Essential Oil of Carum Carvi on Growth Inhibition of Pathogenic Bacteria

Original Research ArticleMar 30, 2018Vol. 6 No. 2b (2006)

Abstract

The antimicrobial activities of the essential oils of Iranian caraway Carum carviwere investigated against Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Klebsiella pneumonia ATCC 13883, Proteus vulgaris ATCC 13315, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853. The antimicrobial activities of the essential oils were evaluated by disc diffusion method. The results showed that the essential oil of Carum carvi inhibited the growth of E. coli and K. pneumonia. Furthermore, the study suggests that these essential oils can be used as preservatives in foods.
